The shortest short answer is, because deeper relationship with Christ is the greatest need of our life and marriage.
But here are 3 longer but still short answers for why “Christ Centered” has to be a point of emphasis for Christian marriages.
- We have no clue. Christ has the details and clarity our marriage needs.
- We are actively fighting about “it”, or we have gotten good at sweeping “it” under the rug. Prayer exposes the truth and points us toward wholeness again.
- Like Adam and Eve, our best fixes are no more than fig leaves. Christ covers our flaws and brings us to a place of peace.
- There is no greater model of love for our marriage than Christ’s love.
Weekly Devotional Thought:
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” John 2:1-5
When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. John 2:9-11
The focus is often on the water to wine miracle which of course is pretty miraculous. But, don’t miss that Christ did what He did where He was, because He was first invited…
As a couple [have you], invite Christ into your marriage, cause when He is invited He shows up, and when He shows up, He turns the ordinary into the best wine - ever.
