Thanks Mom for Introducing Me to Christ

Thanks Mom for Introducing Me to Christ

I Samuel 1:27-28 For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. 28  So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.

Happy Mother’s Day Week! Mom’s give so much of themselves to us, their children. But I came across a biblical mother that gave the greatest gift a mother can give to her child – A relationship with God. Hannah could not have children, a fact that caused her great pain. But rather than sulk or feel sorry for herself, she prayed to the Lord, that He would give her a child. In typical mom fashion, her selfless didn’t stop with her prayer just to have a child, but continued in her motives for wanting a child. Hannah wanted to dedicate the child to the Lord. But the specific meaning of her “dedicating” her child to God, is much more than a ceremonial dedication. Hannah’s meaning of dedication, literally means, “to wholly lend” – to give. That says something not only about Hannah as a mother, but mother’s in general. She wanted a child to wholly give to God for His own use… As I think about my own mother, that is a lot like what she did for and to me. At times she had to let me go, to face challenges and learn things she could not teach, so that God could use me for His purpose. This week, if your mom is still living, give mom a call and thank her while you can, for the role she played in your development and growth as a person and as a Christian. If your mom is at home with the Lord, then maybe a prayer of Thanks to God is in order for all that God blessed you with through you years with your mother. Wherever your mom is, it is time to give thanks for how God used her to make you, you in Christ.

Thanks Mom!
