Hello to All! Today I joined 5 other authors to travel to Ghana in West Africa. It has been a long time coming and I am glad to finally be on the way. Several posts are scheduled to post while I am gone and I will be blogging from Africa as often as I can get an internet signal.
Along the way we are going to be visiting so many sites and places I have longed to go. This is so exciting. How will seeing the “Slave Castle” where so many families histories were forever altered, impact all of us on the trip… I just know God is going to teach me so much about…so much.
So please pray for the LEAP for Ghana trip, where LEAP stands for Literacy, Empowerment and Action Project. Our mission is to give hope through literacy, empower through dreams and take action as we work to rebuild their schools.
Our group is made up of poets, novelists, children’s activists, educators and a guy that writes about Christian marriage and family (me). Collectively we will be reading, donating our books, and taking schools supplies to the kids of Konko Village in the eastern part of the country. I can’t wait to see the hope-filled faces of these kids as many receive books and supplies, for the first time in their lives, for some of these children. The women in the group will be conducting a Girls Empowerment Summit at the Miss Ghana Pageant for girls 9-16 years of age in the capital city of Accra.
So pray, keep checking out the blog and I look forward to sharing great pictures and more about the families I met in Ghana. God Bless!
