God in Marriage: Think on God in Your Marriage

God in Marriage: Think on God in Your Marriage

a.a. couple in fieldIt is the start of yet another week. It is pretty safe that there are some good things going on and there are some challenges that we each face at the start of this week. That is just pretty much life – right? So here is a little encouragement from God’s word for the simultaneous good and challenging in your marriage – this week.

Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Wherever you are in your life, rejoice and allow the gentleness of your spirit be shown. I don’t think that we are to do this, just because, or out of phoniness, rather we can be gentle in unsettledness because we rest in knowing – The Lord is near. I love that…and it is so true of our faith walk that we find peace when we remember that the Lord, The Master of our lives is nearby, even in stress. That is the whole point of our salvation. We are no longer strangers and separated from God, but He is present in all that we face.

It is a reminder that smacks down our anxieties as we draw closer to God in prayer. It is where we find the peace of God that safeguards hearts and minds from slipping into language and actions toward our spouse that only make our hills higher our mountains steeper and our lonely nights lonelier.

It really comes down to a choice, we can dwell on the negative things of our marriage, how our spouse does not do certain things, is not the person we thought they would be, or that things have not turned out at we expected. But, none of that brings us closer to a solution.

So, take some time today to think about your marriage, is God present, is He near by, is He able to calm anxieties and fears encircling your marriage? Think on these things about what God is still able to do in your marriage –  think on what is really true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute, the excellent things of God that are worthy of praise, the things that you have already learned of God…today, dwell on these things.

For every challenge there is the beauty and strength of the Lord at work. The good of marriage is good because of the Lord. The challenges are challenging to push us back to thinking about just how good and capable God is. Think on these things.
