With the recent news about President Obama’s open endorsement of gay marriage, I’ve seen many commentaries lately on beliefs about the topic. Most commonly, I have been seeing insults directed at anyone who does [...]
2 Corinthians 1:2
“2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
God. Our Heavenly Father.
What does that mean to you? I know it’s a phrase we often use to describe God, because Scripture tells us that God is our Father… but what does that mean? To [...]
The article I thought all week about writing just wasn’t taking shape. Then, I was reading Edward’s recent post about his family being more important than all the things that make the to-do list. Now, I just want to ask you all a question: What IS most important? What’s it all about?
Scripture clearly states [...]
I’d love to have a chance to talk to whoever it was that said men aren’t supposed to cry. For some reason, it seems like society has become convinced that only women have emotions and if a man shows emotions, he must be feminine rather than manly. Except anger, of course. Anger is different – [...]
The fact is that we DO feel the way we feel. It doesn’t matter if someone else doesn’t understand it, or if it makes someone else uncomfortable. We all have a right to feel the way we feel. We don’t have the right to take it out on those around us, but we have a right to feel and respectfully express it.
It’s easy to feel defensive in an argument when your emotions are involved. Of course, being human, emotions are generally involved. If emotions are allowed to go unchecked, and defenses rise, communication suffers. Try to think for a moment about the last argument you were in when you began to react defensively. Were you really listening to what the other person was saying? Really listening?
In the past year and a half, I’ve become overly aware of the impact loss can have on individuals and families. After our daughter’s fatal diagnosis, I was surprised about how many people opened up to me about their own losses. Most told me of miscarriages and the impact left behind. The topic is also [...]
After celebrating our wedding anniversary this week, I’ve been thinking about love and marriage. According to Scripture, God is love. (1 John 4:8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.) Love is further defined in 1 Corinthians 13. ” 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy [...]
In my last article, I introduced the idea that your anger is actually more related to the result of the beliefs you attach to your spouse’s actions than the actions themselves. I know all too well that this concept is in direct opposition to what we are normally taught. After all, how many times [...]
Unchecked anger has led to the demise of countless relationships. Have you ever stopped to think about why that is? I often see the negative results of what we could refer to as a passive to aggressive cycle, and it’s largely because of some mistaken beliefs we often begin learning at an early age. I’d [...]
